Week 9 – Everyone is THRILLED

<<Start at Week 1
Today it is exactly 20 months since my last update of the Featherstone Diaries. While it will be hard to string together a cohesive story from the almost four sim weeks of notes and pictures I took over a year and a half ago, I am determined to resurrect the Featherstone’s from the legacy graveyard. I miss them. I’ve tried to start a couple of new legacies in the time since I stopped playing them but none that I have enjoyed quite as much as Lola and her get.  Please, if you’re still as keen as I am to see this legacy finished, bear with me for the next 4 updates. A lot happens in them but unfortunately I might not be able to write about them with the energy and… sparkle that might have been there if they’d been written while I was playing them.

SUNDAY

Sunday is indeed a joyous day for Sylar – it’s Jailbait Joline’s birthday! He encourages her to rush over and he immediately takes her in his arms.

And then he takes her… elsewhere.

And Stein is taken “down town”. While at work she finds herself being taken into police custody and stripped of her dignity and possessions, even her lettuce seed is confiscated lest the other inmates grow jealous of her vast riches.

Meanwhile, Sylar and Joline continue to explore the latter’s new adulthood. Joline seems so keen to spend time with her no-longer-forbidden love that she stays late.

And uses the facilities.

MONDAY

It certainly is shaping up to be a busy week for Sylar already – Monday marks his very first day of work at the hospital. He perhaps has more of a spring in his step this morning than he might otherwise when heading out to work.

This is possibly because Jailbait Joline spent the night at the Featherstone residence. It turns out she did bring a nightie and didn’t have to keep walking around the house in her underwear. I expect she’s rubbing her tummy at the thought of eating that delicious plate of home grown Autumn Salad. Or something.

Sylar is delighted to find his young girlfriend still around when he returns home from work. And embraces her warmly. As it turns out, she has some news for him. (It seems to be news to Mr Featherstone Snr. that his son had convinced someone to date him at all).

Far from being concerned that his lady love has found herself in a family way after only one (official) day of their relationship, Sylar proposes they move in together… and also get married.

Joline is totally down with that plan.

Joline “Jailbait” Featherstone née Crosby moves in adding $1,916 to the family’s coffers. She’s a genius and a virtuoso, but also inappropriate and a coward. Her true passion is athletics and she hopes to one day be a superstar athlete. Like her new mum-in-law, Joline’s favourite colour is sea foam. She’s also quite fond of pancakes and latin music.

In other news out heiress finds herself once again in jail and Sylar pries himself of the (former) jailbait long enough to complete the Proficient Painter skill challenge.

TUESDAY

The next morning Joline and Lola are both up bright and early. Joline has become quiet concerned by her expanding belly and, as an athletic young woman, is determined to work off the baby-weight before the baby is even born. Lola just likes cobbler.

Having been told of her brother’s good news when she got home from jail, Stein greets the day with a determination not to be outdone by her awkward brother and proposes to her beau Fireman Jonathan Guevara (who either spent the night or was having an impromptu underwear party with Mr Featherstone Snr.). He accepts, of course, because an insane, neurotic, evil, criminal legacy heiress is a catch.

Sylar, in an unprecedented show of proficiency, is promoted. (Hi Simself).

While Stein is at work, Mr Guevara spends some quality time with his parents-in-law-to-be. Lola, Mad Sceintist, spends some quality time with another serve of cobbler and Aiden, retiree/chess legend, spends some quality time with “his stories”.

Joline’s belly-reduction plans are not working out.

After another hard day (in jail, urgh), Stein is happy to come home to the future Mr Stein Featherstone.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday is quite a stressful day for the Featherstones. Stein has decided on a big wedding party in the park and her father is quite overcome by seeing her in her big white dress, or he may have just been startled by his jacket sleeve.

But once there the happy couple manage to get hitched without a hitch.

“So glad I went with these veneers.”

Everyone was quite overcome.

*cough cough, single polite clap*

The guests all commented that it was a lovely ceremony though it was quite inconvenient that someone had gone and put all those chairs in the way.

Jonathon Featherstone née Guevara is a brave soul. He enjoys Indie music, Autumn salad and the colour green. He hopes to one day be a world renowned surgeon now that he is no longer a fireman in these pre-ambitions times. He brought $1024 with him, also, he has pretty eyes.

“Fireman, eh? You know I had this theory, I was once a member of the Scientific community you understand,  that red cars are faster than any other colour of car. This would make fire engines the fastest emergency service vehicles, but it makes you wonder doesn’t it? Why not paint all emergency vehicles in the colour of speed? Is it less important for an ambulance to get where it’s going as fast as possible than it is for a fire engine? What do you think of that then, son?”

“That sure is an interesting theory, Mr Featherstone.”

Life is quickly set back to rights when the wedding party returns home. In fact, Joline seems to have finally gotten her svelte pre-pregnancy body back.

It turns out that giving birth is an excellent way to rid oneself of excess baby-weight. Little Miss Lindsay Featherstone is inspected by her grandmother and found to be adequate.

THURSDAY

Thursday sees the family devoting their time to self-improvement. Lola also improves their surroundings as she fits in her last few upgrades.

Sylar and Jonathon both receive promotions. I have no idea how the previously slack Sylar is managing to race up the hospital career ladder.

The two younger Mrs Featherstones both log some time on the treadmills, though Stein also works on sculpting her legs by working out in heels.

She also fits in some frolicking time.

Sylar manages to find the time to max out his painting skills and complete the Brushmaster challenge. I almost want to stop making fun of his creepiness and jailbait girlfriend wife.

FRIDAY

Lola, at last, completes her final handiness skill challenge. Here is a picture of her standing in the teleporter. She is thrilled!

Stein is promoted to the ominous job title “thug”. She is also thrilled.

Joline decides to make herself useful and, after snuggling her baby good-bye, takes a job in the athletic career track.

Stein convinces Jonathon that Sylar is getting too much attention because he’s fathered a grandchild.

“…and that is why I should also father a child. Right?” Stein isn’t much bothered by the details.

Jonathon decides to stick to being the strong silent type.

And Sylar gets another promotion. (At this point my notes read: Promoted again! Holy shit!?)

Then the moment arrives for Lindsay to emerge from her little pink pod.

Lindsay Featherstone turns out to be rather adorable. She’s shaping up to be a virtuosic couch potato and she seems happiest listening to indie music and wearing white, but who can really tell with babies?

SATURDAY

After working late, Stein is heading home in a cab when she begins to feel a bit queasy. The driver pulls over sharply and, with little ceremony, kicks Stein out of his taxi and drives off. She’s left convulsing by the side of the road and has to walk home after emptying her stomach onto the grass.

Back home things are progressing as they ought. Joline and Lindsay are up and taking care of business.

The elderly Featherstones are slumbering contentedly.

And Stein is glad when she can finally slip on her sneakers and work-out clothes and slide between the sheets.

In the evening, while tending the garden, she finds that the first signs of pregnancy are beginning to show. (Those first signs being a sudden change of clothes and a compulsion to rub one’s own belly).

She returns to the gardening with renewed vigour, her mother’s advice on the importance of self sufficiency and passing on important life skills to one’s daughter in the fore-front of her mind.

Back inside, little Lindsay is working on her own skills. Her natural talent for the xylophone is quite impressive. She may not be an eligible heiress but I’m quite glad now to have her around.

And so another week in the Featherstone household draws to a close. Quite a lot got packed in this week and there’s more to come. Thank-you to anyone who has been waiting all this time for an update (I hope you’re not too disappointed) and welcome to anyone new.
