The First Week

This is my second start of a TS3 Legacy. In my first, Gen2 was pretty well brewed but after reading some other, rather impressive, legacies and Aaroc’s version of the challenge I decided that I wanted to start over. I wanted to put more effort into picture taking and storytelling and to put more thought into my family’s concept and goals. I’m very much in love with the Magical Roots Legacy (I would assume that anyone reading this is also following the Roots’, if not, you should be – it’s excellent) so I’m going to follow a similar week-by-week format.

Lola Featherstone wants to raise her daughters to be as handy and green-thumbed as she. Her legacy will be continued by a line of self-sufficient young women who live off the land and never need to bat their eyelashes at the bloke next-door so that he’ll come and fix the sink.

The life of a legacy founder is generally pretty tough, she’ll need to be frugal but with such a good sense of humour I don’t doubt that Lola will make it. She’s also a pretty great kisser, which will be useful because – as self-sufficient as she’d like to be – she’ll need a little help when it comes time to concieve an heiress.

SUNDAY

Lola loves cobbler and indie music but that’s pretty much irrelevant when all you have is a giant empty block. Ah well, Lola is already popping up her first wish. It relates to her lifetime wish so – LET THE LEGACY BEGIN!

Test Subject seems like a good place to start when you want to become a creature-robot cross breeder so Lola applies at the Soil and Water Research Facility. She’s hired, of course, who could turn away such a hard-working lady? That and there is no interview or screening process. That wish fulfilled, Lola is flinging up some other appropriate wishes so it’s off to an all-too-familiar place for new legacy founders.

Lola takes advantage of the quiet in the library to hit the two books she already has with her. Racking up a handiness skill point.

And two for gardening. She also selects a basic cook book from the library’s shelves and learns a little something from that too. Not that she has a stove… or a fridge – she reminds me of this by rolling up wishes for both these items so it’s probably time to head home.

It’s gotten dark outside but there’s one more wish to fulfill while we’re in the area.

“Why do I feel like that was a bit of a pointless exercise?”
Well you didn’t specify that you wanted to buy anything at the bookshop – just visit it.
“Hmmph.”

Being frugal I thought that Lola would appreciate her new multi-function chair. I’m not sure she did, I might have caught the word “humiliating”.

“Isn’t the first day over yet?”
Don’t worry, just pop these seeds in and you’ll be set.

Don’t wave those at me! I thought you liked clipping coupons?

And finally to bed with her new garden in her thoughts… and right beside her bed.

MONDAY

Why good morning, my little baby angel!
“Mmmsh, not enough sleep.”
But it’s already such a beautiful day, besides, you have to shovel in some cereal and then head to the public pool for a shower before your first day of work.
“The public pool?!”
Yes well, you don’t actually have a shower on your lot yet… so to speak… kind of. You’re a practical lady, you’ll make it work!

“Lousy legacy challenge, I can’t even put my maintenance studies to practical use with so little plumbing.”

On the bright side, the community pool is right next door to Lola’s workplace – so convenient she can put off getting a shower for a while I’d say!Lola gets home from work and greets her little green family warmly – letting the new growth know all about her first day at work. She tidies up her dishes with the brand new basin her wages have brought in and heads out of the “house” again.

Now that she’s back at the library, Lola sets about improving her charisma.
“A woman must be well-rounded in order to be self-sufficient!”
Another night of skilling until it’s time to sleep.

TUESDAY

Lola heads off to work again, but today she has lovely minty breath and a more cheerful outlook. The work day progresses as usual and she returns home afterward to complete her usual chores.

Tending the garden..

And acquiring useful skills.

“Come little fishes, my little frond-lings need plant food.”

WEDNESDAY

On Wednesday there is more work… and dancing!

And even enough money for an investment in hygiene. Seating too, apparently, although I do miss her eating on the toilet.

THURSDAY

Today the sink breaks and Ms D-I-Y springs into action. She even manages to subdue the plumbing before the carpool leaves her behind.

And to skim through “Living with Mutation” before bed.

On a side note, knickers are maybe not the best sleepwear when lawn living. It’s Winter in my hemisphere and looking at Lola in her leopard-print set makes me shiver.

FRIDAY

Lola darling, it’s the end of the working week and you’ve finally managed your first promotion – why don’t you look more cheerful?
“Please, don’t embarrass me in front of the flaming red-head.”
The nerdy guy with too short pants?
“He’s a natural cook and he wants to make cobbler out of my fresh produce.”
I’m quite honestly lost on what to make of that. :/

I’m sending you to the fish farm to cool off and get some plant-fodder. Then it’s an evening of skill-related reading for you, little miss!

Gah! Thank goodness tomorrow is Saturday.

SATURDAY

After getting up to complete her tidying and gardening chores I let Lola have a lie in for much of Saturday.

The early evening finds her at the art museum, thinking wistfully of having walls and a roof. Maybe Lola is right and it’s time to think about introducing a second income/baby daddy into the family.

No, probably not Buck Broke. As adorable as Elizabuck are I don’t think Lola is too impressed.
“So, I was fairly charming to a passing stranger, that’s what you wanted – right?”
“Well, sure! Did…”
“K, bye.”

Opportunity complete!

Now for the important stuff – there are enormous fist-sized seeds to collect!

And some skillin’.

Sorry about the slow pace. I’m sure at this early stage the story is of little interest to anyone besides myself but if you have the chance to read it let me know what you think – especially about things like pacing, ratio of pictures to text and whether there should be more or less of a story (not that there could be much less at this point). I’ll be posting this at the Boolprop Forums, if I summon the nerve. Thanks for reading!

    Thanks for the lovely comments!

Yep, Katarina, I made her in CAS. I utilise the pre-made options (they’re so much better than the ones in TS2!) and then go in and tweek them. I’m really loving face creation in TS3, my favourite slider is eye apex.
Yep, Winter for me here in Australia – not that it snows in the state I live in. I’m actually pretty lucky because Winter in Queensland is mostly chilly air but with some lovely warm sunlight.
